GET TO KNOW JUAN

Juan Rodas was born and raised in Falls Church, Virginia inside the Washington DC Metro area. A son of Ecuadorian immigrants and the youngest of three siblings, he was the first in his family to be born a US citizen. Juan was born with a hand deformity that his parents struggled financially to support, but with the help of a children’s foundation, he had proper medical care as a child at no expense to his family. Society can be judgmental, especially as a child, so navigating his disability had its challenges, but Juan never let it prevent him from participating in anything and performing at his best (including deadlifting 500+ pounds!).

Juan spent most of his childhood living in small apartments along with generations of family members. It was here that Juan learned the importance of family, friends, and community. He saw the happiness of his parents buying their first home when he was in his teens and their sacrifices in pursuing the American dream. Juan’s family instilled the value of challenging work in him as a child and he learned fiscal responsibility early on out of economic necessity.

No stranger to breaking down barriers, as a teenager in high school Juan became a father for the first time and faced the responsibility of supporting a new family. Soon after high school, the trajectory of his life began to change when he was hired as an entry-level file room clerk at a large mortgage lender. Juan was able to gain invaluable experience with an employer who exposed him to all sides of the mortgage life cycle, while also supporting him through some personally troubling young adult years.

While growing his mortgage career and working full time, Juan went from being one of a few in his circle of friends and family to graduate from high school. Following high school, Juan sought higher education as an adult. Juan received his bachelor’s in finance from George Mason University, and then put himself through graduate school while working full time, earning a master’s in finance from Johns Hopkins University. He also went on to receive his Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) designation from the Mortgage Bankers Association. Juan combined his street smarts he gained as a youth with the wealth of experience he gained throughout his mortgage career to co-found New Story Lending.

Today, Juan’s focus is on breaking the barriers in the mortgage industry through his company, New Story Lending, most notably the Affordable Housing initiatives. He is living proof that a new story can be created out of any community or lifestyle from which you may come. He continues being enthusiastic about helping educate others and feels it is important to try to learn something new every day. Juan continues to expand his Philanthropic initiatives and loves giving back to youth organizations, including The Shriners Hospital for Children, the foundation that was pivotal in his medical care early in life.

Juan loves the competition around his participation in CrossFit and MMA as well as the solitude of challenging hikes. He was once upon a time deeply involved in music and still loves it! Juan is a member of the “girl dad” club, and more than anything, loves spending as much time as possible with his two daughters, Veronica and Brianna.
