Shane Miller was born in Easley, South Carolina, a rural community geographically in the western part of the state. The product of a single mother, Shane quickly became a caregiver to his two younger sisters, in assistance to his mom, requiring him to mature very quickly as the sole male in the home. Shane’s childhood was often spent in transient housing circumstances due to the result socioeconomics may often have on single mother households. These situations instilled in Shane at a noticeably early age the value of his faith, family, friends, and community advocacy. His love for helping all willing and desirous people achieve the American dream of having a place to call home abundantly stems from observing his own family significantly struggle when he was a child.
Though Shane witnessed many challenges as a youth, he is a resolute individual who believes in “making adjustments, not excuses,” which is largely a result of him growing up below the poverty line. This mentality remained with Shane perpetually as he began working at nine years old and continued doing so as a teenager. In fact, Shane never stopped working and attending school simultaneously throughout his working and academic careers. After graduating from his local high school, Shane attended the local community college where he earned an associate in arts and worked at businesses in the local community.
A believer in hard work, education, and lifelong learning, Shane joined the United States Army, while simultaneously working for a local bank as the greeter, the company’s most entry-level position. It was this first banking job that would propel Shane’s love for mortgage banking and his subsequent career in the industry. With the help of grants, scholarships, and becoming number one on the order merit list for his senior class in the Army, Shane worked zealously to put himself through college, ultimately reaching the pinnacle of academics. As the only person in his immediate family to graduate from higher education, Shane earned a bachelor’s in political science, and a master’s in human resource development, both from Clemson University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership with a business concentration from University of the Cumberlands.
Relying on the knowledge gained over the past 20 years he has held in the mortgage industry, Shane co-found New Story Lending. Today, Shane is intent on growing and developing New Story Lending as the best mortgage company in the industry, its Affordable Housing initiatives, and helping each consumer, in all the communities served, break barriers to achieve the American Dream of homeownership. Indeed, as someone who personally experienced barriers in life, Shane believes that anyone can break barriers to achieve their dreams and create their own new stories. Shane continues his community advocacy and is intent on expanding Philanthropic initiatives and charitable activities, while establishing an extraordinary work culture at New Story Lending.
Shane enjoys running, high intensity interval training, tennis, and anything that entices his competitive nature. He believes in exercising the mind through reading and supports his church. Shane is a member of the “girl dad” club, and more than anything, loves spending as much time as possible with his wife, Leianne, and their two daughters, Lilli Beth, and Maggie Rose.
